In partnership with Baylor Scott & White’s Cardiovascular Institute, Living for Zachary has awarded two incoming students in the Institute’s Adult Echocardiography program with a $5,000 scholarship in support of their educational endeavors.
Marissa Battle and Isabella Mead were selected as the 2024-2025 recipients of the scholarship, which is one year in duration. The recipients were chosen by faculty at the Cardiovascular Institute from among their incoming class. Students in the Adult Echocardiography program undergo a rigorous, one-year program over the course of three semesters. The incoming class of students began their studies in September 2024 and are expected to graduate in August 2025. Marissa and Isabella were announced as scholarship recipients and awarded honorary checks in August 2024 at Baylor Scott & White The Heart Hospital – Plano.
Living for Zachary’s Scholarship Program was founded shortly after the organization’s inception in 2009 after the death of Zachary Schrah, who collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest during football practice at Plano East Senior High School. Originally created to honor Zachary’s future career goal as a physician, the Scholarship Program was revamped in 2022 to focus on supporting students pursuing the field of cardiac sonography.
“Living for Zachary is thrilled to announce our 2024-2025 Cardiac Sonography Scholarship recipients,” said Jessica Cook, Executive Director. “As we seek to save lives from sudden cardiac arrest, Living for Zachary knows that placing more professionals in this field is key to preventing future tragedies. We know Marissa and Isabella will go on to make a difference for hearts in the years to come, and we are proud to support them as they train at the highest level with The Cardiovascular Institute.”
